How and how often to use ACV

Apple cider vinegar. You want to get the stuff with the big bob or mother in it. Trader Joe's carries it along with other natural food stores. Note to self; go to TJ's tommorrow... I'm out of ACV.

Does Braggs ACV have a mother in it? How do you make sure you don't kill it off? (How do you store it?)

My thoughts exactly! Did not buy Braggs but bought the storebrand of same thing. Was going to leave in the coop since I've got a little bit of a hike there, but in Texas it is still very hot. Also, I change the 3 gallon water every other day. How does that effect it?

Fascinating thread! I'm brand new to raising pure-bred chickens and had to see what the heck ACV was! I've used it in my sheep's water ~ I raise Shetland sheep ~ prior to and during breeding season. I was told it could help increase the ratio of females to males born. I seriously doubt if THAT worked but they didn't mind the stuff as long as I didn't put too much in the water.

I'm getting my first started pair of 3 to 4 month old Mille Fleur bantam Cochins tomorrow. Should I start them on ACV as soon as they're acclimated to their new home? The breeder suggested I put a little Gatorade in the first water that I offer them when they get here...

I am not too sure what age to start them at but mine are between 4 - 6 months and I started them on it this weekend. Also, you might want to search some threads regarding the gatorade as it seems to me that I have read several things about NOT using the stuff. Good luck.!!!

Bragg's ACV has the mother in it. Refrigerate after opening. You can often find Bragg's gallon for about $12 in the health food store. It is like getting a quart free compared to buying it by the quart. Since we drink it each day as well, we purchase by the gallon and refill a quart container for easier daily use.
