I am in central Ohio area, no coup built yet, have not raised chickens since my teenage years. Now will do so with my kids. Once the coup is built I want to get Orpington's. It may not be until May, I hope I April depends on how soon I can get a home built for them. Once I am ready, I am sure the farm stores chick days will be over, so then what? When a teenager I use to buy from a local farmer, now I do not know anyone around me that has this type of chicken, is there a place to look this up for where I live? How well do chicks travel when buying and having them sent to post office, or how does that work?

thanks, need some wisdom here in Central Ohio

Chicks generally ship very well though the mail. I've ordered from four different hatcheries over the years and have had chicks shipped as far as Hawaii with only 1 or 2 losses (and since they always 2 or 3 extra in the boxes, I've always gotten what I've paid for). Meyer Hatchery, a very large hatchery located in Polk, OH sells Buff Orpingtons (https://www.meyerhatchery.com/productinfo.a5w?prodID=BUOS). Good luck in getting your BOs.
