Hi everyone!
I thought I would share a little story about one of my helpful little hens named Ant.

When Ant was about 4 weeks old and we were starting to introduce them to the outside world. The 9 little chicks bounced around in the sun and even tried dust bathing for there first time!

Around the same time they were chicks we had about 20 cabbage plants around the chicks age. And something mysterious was happening. We would start to see them topple over completely cut at the base. At first we thought Cut Worm but they were being cut higher up. And the chicks were not big enough to do much damage. We kept thinking it must be something bigger. But we were wrong they were ANTS!

Hundreds of ants were chewing the base of the plants. And felling them like trees! Well we had to do something fast so we picked up one of our un-named chicks and brought her over to a plant. At first she looked confused than soon caught on eating every ant! Throughout the next weeks we would put her on the ground than point to a plant with ants. And she would run over and eat them. Than we would point to the next and she would do the same. Well to make a long story short (My chickens want to be let out) she saved the cabbage and was given the name of Ant.
I hope you enjoyed!

PS: She is still healthy and happy laying lots of eggs. :D

Here are a few pics I took the other day.

Shes a hero! What a great way to save your plants without pesticides! Very creative. Way to go Ant!

That's the first I ever heard of a chicken paying any attention to ants. I thought they didn't like them. Mine always ignored ants, even when they saw them.

Mine ignore them as well, but maybe as a chick they are big enough to pay attention to. I thought that was interesting too.
