How bad is slaked lime for chicken?

I just build some nest boxes and after a few layers of paint, I went over it with lime. I didn't know at the time that there's more than one type, and it turns out I used slaked lime. People say it burns skin, but I had it on my skin for hours and didn't feel a thing.

Is it safe to put it in as is?

That is the exact stuff I use to whitewash and every year, either some beastie manages to take a big ol swig of it, fall in the bucket (I swear a bucket of whitewash has a magnetic attraction to half-grown chickens and barn kitties) or dive in the open lime bag and snort like they think it's a different kind of white powder.

Everyone is always fine.
