Actually, I rest them and freeze them in the same bag. They are fully clean, cut into desirable pieces and ready to freeze when I rest the little boogers!
Sunny, I know exactly what you are talking about and it's no fun to pick all the feathers off the bird. What you CAN do is take steps to prevent it. Right after the kill/bleed, take the chicken and dunk in water (lukewarm for me) and make sure all the feathers are thoroughly soaked to the skin. The reason that feathers stick to the carcass when skinning is that the dry feathers kind of get "glued" onto the moist surface of the meat. That makes it really hard to get off. When you soak the bird before skinning, the feathers get clumped up and wet and will not stick to the carcass. I have even skinned birds under a small running stream of water to prevent the drying on of the feathers. Hope that helps.
Thank you IAK. I've been having the same problem. seems counter productive to skinning when there is no way to get those tiny little feather hairs off the clean meat. Last time I tried to get em all and said heck with it!! Just didn't tell the misses lol
Oooh, yes, thank you! I think that will make a big difference in the process. Between wetting the feathers before skinning and keeping the skinned carcass fairly dry afterwards I hope to have much cleaner birds for the table. Great ideas, everyone! Thank you all!
