HOW BEST TO PACKAGE EGGS FOR SHIPPING DO"S AND DON"TS

They were in the mail for 48 hrs. They were well packaged too. I think they went by air in a baggage department of an airplane that was not insulated. Is that possible? Either way, I saw one that is growing and was kicking yesterday. Its little feet just kicking away. That made me smile. I am in lockdown.
airline baggage compartments are both pressurized and heated so i doubt thats where it happened, however if left on a luggage rack in unheated space they could happen if the temps are very low, either way sorry that you had such bad luck.

i think we are educating sellers to change thier pkg habits and that is bringing up the average hatch rate.

i would calculate my hatch rate based on eggs recieved vs eggs developing, not based on how many ordered vs how many developing. i think it very generous of sellers to include extra eggs to make sure that you get the quantity purchased, but to be fair about determining accurate hatch rates you really should include all eggs that get set...of course broken eggs would not figure in because they never get a chance to attempt to develope. This is my opinion and i think represents the most scientific method of calculating, but i certainly would love to hear from others on this.

Thanks. I also calculate percentage of shipped eggs that vein as well. I run all sorts of numbers. I ended up with 115% of the eggs I ordered - aprox one extra for each six and a half eggs. 1.2% of all eggs shipped broke in transit. The infertility rate was 14.3% the early blood ring rate was 2.6% and the initial viability rate on all shipped eggs (including those destroyed in transit) stands at 81%, These numbers are still pretty good for shipped eggs. Lets see how they develop.

i think those numbers are great and i really hope you have great success with all the eggs. what kind of incubator are you using, thanks for the update.
