How bout these as duck coops? (PICS)

hi,
i have chickens
and i have ducks

right now i have them all in the house at night

(due to predation of my ducks)

i can tell you this
from my experience with the current ones i have
and the ones i had in the past

ducks are very messy, even without a pond

they need to plunge their heads in water and with every few bites of food they need water
that makes for very wet poop, and water splashed
they also can not help themselves......
they love to bath!
even in sub freezing weather, when you have to break the ice out of the buckets,
put liquid water in there
and they will perch on the side of the bucket if they have to to get water splashed on their backs

now my current breed of duck is muscovy ( blue eyed white ones, i tell them they are very patriotic, red carunkling, blue eyes, white feathers)
they are dabblers
they need even more drinking type water it would seem
they LOVE MUD
if they can they will MAKE MUD

( of course then they want to kiss me on the mouth.......ewwww all covered in mud and 'duck mud' and yucks)

i always feed and water outside
i have a heater for the buckets now, gotten last year after i fell on the ice out by the duck pen and couldn't get up during a snow storm

( and soon a pen next to the house thanks to all you folks and your help and advise)

it's also been my experience that ducks seem to smell a bit more when confined

they are crated at night, and it takes ONE night for the ducks to mess their crate
the drake is a bit better......takes him two nights

the chickens would take a week

now as with everything...... you may find different for your ducks

i hope so cause i tell you
those crates are hard to clean, unless i hose them out.....which is not possible during the winter

i swear my ducks plaster the walls with it all

but letting them 'roost free' in the basement only led to them pooping all over the snowblower and EVERYTHING else
so it's the crates

take care

vi

The coop looks great, but in IMPO no matter what anyone puts on here you will have to find what works for you with some trial and error.

That is what I have found, even with the opinions you get. Once your animals are in there surroundings for awhile you see things you need to modify, etc.

My ducks seem to have there own way of doing things no matter what we do
