I use a powerful LED flashlight that I taped a toilet paper roll to. It helps if the room is on the darker side. Turn the flashlight on and put the egg on top, big end down. Your should see the air sac, some vessels, and at day 12 you could see some movement. Just be careful, many an egg have been dropped from candling. Don't leave the egg for more than a couple minutes. Some people use flood lights in a box with a hole cut in the top. Basically, you are wanting to shoot light into the egg to see veining. There is some great info here: Egg Candling Progression

Particularly if your eggs are brown or blue/green you want the strongest light source you can find. This is often a flashlight of some sort since their beams are or can be focused. Now you want the room you are candling in to be as dark as possible. We usually wait until after dark to eliminate the sun coming in from the windows. Now place the egg in front of the light. You want to work it so that NO light can be seen except that which is actually coming through the shell of the egg. This can often be done by shaping your hand around the egg and the light, but you can also fashion a cone out of paper, a toilet paper tube, or some such to accomplish the same thing.

With the room completely dark and no light leaking from around the egg you can often candle all but the darkest of eggs.

I have candled copper maran eggs with no problems. The flashlight is the key. There is no need to buy an expensive egg candler either. I ordered a high powered flashlight of the internet with 200 lumens. It works great. But then there are the readily available led flashlights that have multiple light bulbs for cheap at the drug stores. I even got one at a dollar store, but it lasted a couple weeks. Oh.. the mini mag light did not work for me. It has around 15 lumens.

Charbel, If you have a table lamp available take the shade off and use any small cardboard box or oatmeal cylindical box with a hole cut in one end to where it will fit over the lamp assembly. Then screw the bulb ( at least 60 wt.) back in the lamp base. Cut another hole size of a 50 cent coin in the top of the box. In a dark room turn lamp on and hold egg over the top hole and contents of egg are clearly visible. Has always worked well for me...
