How can I get my chicken to use the nestbox?

She is a Golden Silkie, unsure about her age but I know she is a pullet and we should be expecting an egg any day now, although she might have already laid when we had her in a different hut. However, I notice she tends to huddle/nest outside in the grass or maybe under a tree, I don't want her to lay there. I have nest boxes in the coop but I think they are quite high up and I have not seen her jump that high to have a look. It is full of straw and wood shavings for her comfort but I have not seen any change in the nest boxes. How can I encourage her to use them. I understand she might not have had her first egg yet (but soon), but is there methods or strategies to help her nest. Thanks

Do you have a perch or something right outside of it? Make sure it is really dark and secluded too. Some people put fake eggs in there to show them what the drill is, but I've never done that. I've had problems with a few hens, but I just lured them in there with some food and they figured it out. Good Luck!
