Well you are lucky you don't know me. I can say quite the different.
I have raised regular chickens before and they are just as spoiled as a cat or dog and in some ways even more. Its just the way they were raised. If you have raised them for the first few months of their life and put them outside in an environment where they won't be handled as much. Then it is natuaral for them to turn a little wild.
Honestly I know what your problem is. What you need to do is spend more special time with your new rooster. He is causing the problems. He has never been handled so of course he wont come near you. And Because he is the dominate one the hens fallow in his example. And if he is going to act crazy then thats what they will do. Just go right in grab him and hold him. He will eventually sercome to it.
I have birds that want to be handles all the time. They don't expect treats. I come out and sit out in the lawn chair and they cry till I pick one up. Sometimes they even fight who gets to sit on me first. They lay down in my lap and I pet them. They purr in happiness.
I come in the house and I here scratching and crying out my front and back door.
I have a regular standard bird that fallows me around the yard. She pestures and bites the back of my leg till I pick her up. Every so often I will yelp because my chicken wants my attention lol. I raised her from a 3 day old chick. She is just as spoiled and rotten since then. She is 5 years old.
Its not just about the food.
Its the time you spend with them that makes the difference.
So if your thinking it can't be done... well it can be done
I honestly could go on and on about it.
