How can I help my chickens (traumatised from another chicken death)

Sorry for your loss. Missing head is a classic weasal type attack. Secure up the rest and they will get over it soon. It may take a few weeks for them to get over the stress of it, as it is likly that they saw the attack outside and heard it, and no longer want to come out because they don't feel that it is safe.

It does make you feel awful, even if there's nothing you could do. I didn't know hens could be so vicious until I got mine!

Thanks for all your lovely posts! It makes me feel a lot better that there are lots of other chicken lovers out there! I think my friends think I'm strange for being sad over a chicken but they were pets more than anything! I really appreciate all your advice and help! Thanks everyone!

I didn't realise this was an American website at first! So no weasels or racoons - Sorry!! We had someone tell us today that apparently foxes can take the heads off and drink the blood which sounds awful, but is maybe what happened!

The chickens still won't venture out, even for fresh corn, but I'm sure they'll get over it tomorrow!
