I am new to BYC and this is my first started thread. Any tips or ideas i can do to make my brooder better would be extremely helpful. And yes there are poultry nipples attached to the bottom of the jars and they do use them. (6 bantams in a 32" by 18" plastic storage container)

Looks good to me. Just watch the as they grow, you will want to move them to something larger as they get larger and you may want to have wire on top in a few weeks. They look to be happy to me.

Good Job.

If you buy a tabletop lamp dimmer you can reduce the power consumption from your heat lamp. That will allow you to safely lower it and then dim it more over time to wean them off the heat as they grow. Bulbs last longer, are cheaper to operate and less of a overheating/fire hazard when dimmed as much as possible.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! What cute little chicks! Neat idea on the waterers. X2 they are going to be popping out of the brooder in a week or so, so a screen or something over the top's going to be in order. If you want to free up some space, you could use a small bowl with a rock or something in it for feed since 6 bantams don't eat much.

Looks good so far, but they will be growing fast. So you will need to enlarge their area and use some sort of screen over top to keep them inside.

Good luck with your new babies and enjoy BYC!

It's important to have a large enough brooder so that chicks can get completely away from the heat source when they need to, just as they would if raised by a hen. It is hard to accomplish that in a very small space.
