I just got a 6 week old polish hen, I got her alone but I know she can't be alone so I would like to introduce her to my 15 week old sebright bantam hen. I think they would be a good fit as they are around the same size because sebrights are so small. Only problem is the sebright is a bit fisty when it comes to new things. There is really no one else I can introduce her to so do you all have any tips on how to instroduce them? I tried putting them together for a minute but my Sebright puffed up so I got scared and took her out. TIA

Welcome to BYC. You can start introducing them to each other by either separating them with hardware cloth fencing., or by putting one or the other in a wire cage so they can check each other out without bloodshed.

After some time, they should accept each other and can be in the same pen but do stay near by in case things go downhill, so you can separate them.

Hi and welcome to BYC! Can you do a look but don't touch set up, so they can be around each other without being able to fight? :)

Thank you!🙂 It would be quite hard to do that because the most reason I want to introduce them is so she can have a cuddle buddy at night since she is still so young. If I did do that, how long would it be till they would be used to eachother and how would I know?

:welcome

Hello, integration takes time, chickens don't like change and it take a while for them to get used to new situations. The other greeters have given you some good tips and an excellent link to check out, so I'll just say hello and best of luck!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Your Sebright isn't going to want your Polish as a 'cuddle buddy' any time soon.

Keep the Polish in a large dog crate with food and water in the run or coop where the Sebright is. Keep the Polish in the crate and the crate in a secure place for the night. They will get to know each other a bit through the wires of the crate but the Polish will be safe.

When you let the Polish out for the first time, lock the Sebright in the coop and let the Polish learn the run. Then let the Sebright out. Make sure there is lots of room and two feed and water stations. I'd want at least a 30 sq foot total area or more and lots of perches and hiding places and things to scratch through to distract the Sebright.

It takes months for a full integration. They can co-exist sooner than that (days) as long as there is plenty of room for every one to get far away from the other and lots of other things to do besides beat up the new guy.
