How can I make a cheap quail pen?

I have a good sized (3x5- 5.5) wire mesh type that is on the bottom of rabbit hutches. I am planning on fitting approximatley 18 quail in it. How can i make it easy to clean, cheap to build and do you have any plans or pics of your pens?

Cheap.....go around to local construction sites, or remodelers. Ask if they have any scrap lumber in their dumpsters or sitting around. Our one friend has a construction/carpentry buisness and says they always have tons of good lumber that goes to scrap. I'm getting some to build my Bee Hives and also Quail pens. For cheep wire.....look around.....price.....maybe see if there are any auctions around. But usually I like to go with new wire as it is clean and rust free usually. You are going to want a pen that will give each of the 18 quail 1 sq/ft or room. I would say a 3 x 6 pen would be ideal. But bigger is always better. If your putting this outdoors I would suggest pressure treated lumber. But you can always just paint it....or treat the would yourself. Rabbit hutches are great for quail. As long as the flooring is really no bigger than 1/2" x 1/2" wire or 1/2" x 1".

I believe you have already seen my one pen. This pen I will be splitting up into 2-3 sepearte breeding pens. I will house my Jumbo Browns/Goldens and Jumbo Whites here. I will be building smaller breeder pens for my colored birds.

Sam, are they in a double enclosure? It looks like their pen is fenced in. Very nice pen.

Or if you're willing to go for "used" theres always someone wanting rid of a rabbit hutch.
