how can I make a coop with wood pallets?

I have 3 full grown hens and a coop for them but I now have 2 10week old chicks and the hens DO NOT like them! As of now the chicks sleep in the house and they get put out side in r pool(no liner. Big sand box) . its giting cold and I am going 2 try and build a small coop so I can get them out side but also s slowly start giting them used to each other.

does anybody know how to make a small coop with wooden pallets?

Skies the limit. You can do just about anything you want. Design is up to you. Pulling pallets apart is hard work. Cutting them is easier but still work. You have to find you some to bring home also. But in the end the wood is free and your options are only limited by your own imagination.

Do you think that entire thing above is made form pallets? That's just beautiful. Makes me want to build another coop!

You can really design and build just about anything with wood pallets. I like the bigger pallets myself. Like those that come with tile flooring. I build and design and some things come out beautiful while others are just ugly enough not to show anyone. One of my favorite things to build with pallets are garden plant tables.

Jimmyalt the 3rd picture above would be a simple build with most any pallet wood. Though the picture is not pallet wood it could be mimcked very easily.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of pulling apart pallets, you can always use the pallets as a frame and cover the openings between slats with other wood (fence pickets are cheap). If you search Pallet Coops on the Coop page, you should find a number of design options. Good luck and take lots of pics to share!

I made it through prying apart 1.5 pallets before I just gave up. They were super sturdy, new pallets (about 4x6') used for solar equipment. Prying apart ended up cracking wood, and then there were all the nails to deal with. I still managed an A-frame meatie pen with the pallets, but pulling apart the pallets was HARD. There has to be a better way. I have 3 more of these super pallets, but I don't want to ruin 1/2 the wood with my incompetent methods!

Use a saws-all, with a metal in wood blade. Slip the blade between the runner and the slat and cut the nail, they'll come off like butter.

Yogifink's link is a great idea of the limitless uses of pallets for a coop. Though integrated with other lumber it is a GREAT use of pallets to keep costs down and still be aesthetically pleasing. Great build idea.

Built mine out of pallets, lots of work but I am happy and girls seem to like it.
