How can I make a hen go broody

I have no rosters but want baby chicks I have 5 hens only one is laying how do I make one go broody so I can buy fertilized eggs to put under please help me.

What breeds are the hens? There is no way to make a hen go broody. It depends on the breed, the time of year, the individual hormones of a hen. The only thing you can do to encourage broodiness is to leave dummy eggs in the nestboxes so that the hens think they are collecting a nice batch of eggs there.

Also, a hen will almost always lay quite a few eggs before going broody, so you would have to wait for them to start laying again to have any hope.

When I want a hen to go broody I leave them their eggs. This has has worked for my Bantams.
