So i was going to the garden mostly to feed the chicks.. Now usually doves and birds fly away when i come but this dove didnt at all.. So i just gave her a bowl of chicken food corn and soya etc.. But she didnt eat.. So i go inside only to come after 5 mins with a cat near the dove..although i dont know this dove or not own it i go into panic mode everytime i see a bird or a animal being murdered.. So i scare the cat off.. Now at this point if i leave the dove to be a meal to the cat i will probably feel guilty for the next year.. So i picked up the dove made a nice comfy home inside but because i dont know if she is sick or not i got her outside in the cage and provided her with food... Because if i let her live with the baby chicks they will probably get sick too.. So outside with food...

But i was starting to get worried as she is not eating or drinking what can i do.. Please i cant be guilty cause i didnt know what to do to this beautiful animal..

Sorry if this is too long but please help!
Thanks - Ezuldeen

Good job saving this PIGEON! This isn't a dove, but a very close relative. Does it have a band? It may be a domestic pet, or a wild feral. Since it wasn't scared of you, it is either injured\sick, or domestic. Keep feeding it what you are, provide some water, and in a day or two, if you think it is better, you might want to try to release it!

Thank you for your reply..
Update: the pigeon was scared of me not a lot tho.. But she got used to me after.. Plus i saw that her wing is a little injured so i think it will be better i will try to open the cage to see if it flys tomorrow and if it doesnt i will keep her until she will.. Sounds good?

Is the wing broken? If so, she may never be able to return safely to the wild.

If she is bleeding the best you can do is put some blood stop on it and stop her from moving around too much. If you think it would be worth it, you can bring her to an avian or exotic animals vet. If you plan to keep her until she is healed or for more than a day or to you should check out the laws in your area for keeping wildlife because in some places it is illegal.
There also seems to be some confusion as to if this bird is a Dove or a Pigeon so I thought I would define those terms. So, doves are like chickens because they are separated into two groups like bantam and standard chickens. The standard of a dove is called a pigeon and the bantam version is still called a dove. So, this bird would be both a pigeon and a dove. Like chickens doves also come in breeds and this bird looks like it might be a Rock Dove which are also known as common pigeons. I hope this helps!

Good advice on the injury.

also relating it to chickens isn't good. Because the two can't breed and produce offspring, like chickens. Though they are both from the Columbidae family. a better example is crows and ravens. Both from the family Corvidae, though they can't interbreed.
