How can this be?

This egg was collected just like this from the nesting box? It appears to be a brown egg inside a white egg but that cant be? Can it? I thought maybe the egg was layed inside a broken shell but it is perfectly fitted with very few cracks in the white shell. It wouldn't be possible to have the brown one go inside without the white shell breaking? Has anyone seen this? Im so perplexed by it!!

It’s exceedingly rare but a chicken can lay an egg inside an egg. Usually the egg moves back up into the chicken and another shell forms around it. Looks like this one missed the color the second time.
