We have been keeping a rescued chukar for a while now. One of her talons broke off, and we fear she stay with us to long to return to the wild.

We have kept her on a table in an old cage we used to use for some of our pigeons and chickens, as of now due to the cold our chickens are sleeping in the same garage as she lives, I heard that chickens can easily kill chukar due to the diseases they carry, is this true?

We are wondering if there is anything we can do to make her more content with her living space? Should I make an outside living space for her or should I continue to keep her inside? Should I buy a perch for her? What sort of vitamans, antibiotics, and food should I think of?

An outside aviary is a good idea but should be very predator proof. Yes, chickens carry diseases that they can tolerate but will kill gamebirds very quickly.

A balanced and complete feed ration of 24% should be fed as the main dietary intake. Sunflower seeds, peanuts- unsalted, fruits and berries can be fed as treats. Also green leafy items, such as lettuce, cabbage or other green weeds can be fed as treats, too!
The outdoor aviary should have protection from the elements, and a draft free zone provided, with adequate shade in summer months, most partridges roost on the ground and are not perching birds but you can add them if you want too!

Thank you so much forr the response, at the moment my chickens have to sleep in the same area as her due to not having fixed their coop, I will need to fix it as soon as possible. I will inform you that she is however, raised on top of a table so she is allevated from the hens.

Are there any good premade gamebird feeds for chukars? Any good premade out aviary I can by for a decent price that you would recomend? Usually my chukar poops green poops but now recently she has been doing black ones as well, no blood to my knowledge.

Does anyone know of any good places to purchase outdoor aviaries at a decent price? I cannot seem to find a decent local solution myself but I still cannot break the bank.

What does healthy chukar poop look like? Usually my chukar poops green but as of late she poops a harder looking black every now and than, I am not so worried about as she still looks healthy enough but I am in fact worried still.

We added an overlay of chickenwire for the chukar to walk on in her cage so she doesn't get covered in her poop while we try and make a better living space for her in the future.

I have heard she could pontially catch bumblefoot from this but my chickens ended up catching bumblefoot as a result of walking in their own poop before I increased the size of their living area.

What does healthy chukar poop look like? I am worried because some of her poop is very dark, worried it was blood, also worried that she is lighter, I have still not been able to make a new home for her but have made her home now more manageable.

I am sorry I cannot contribute because I have no experience with chukars, but hopefully this will draw some attention to your questions. I completely understand the stress of not fully knowing how to care for a rescue bird. Maybe try and google it, look for other forums with similar questions.

Thank you, we have been looking into it.
