How can you cool down you chicken on a hot day?

Oh I like this! You freeze the bottles and place them in front of the fan? Brilliant. Will remember this when summer comes.

Great question!

And here is an answer from the Capitol of HOT!

The coop must be in the shade.

I also have windows on two sides of the coop so that there can be air flow.

It must be well ventilated. In summer, I have a fan that vents cool air into the coop starting at about 3:30AM and have it shut off at about 11AM.

On days when the temps are going to be over 110, I put ICE in their water... twice a day. At lunch time and at 6PM.

As the sun goes down, I will turn a fine spray of water on in a corner of the run so that those who want to cool off that way can. (My White Rock Hen LOVES the spray and would sit in it until she was dripping wet, then run around and shake it of and go back for more.... most of my hens detest getting wet)

At least one area of the run needs to have some shade.

My chickens survived the summer here and we had a couple of days over 115F.

From 1PM until about 5PM, my hens stayed in the coop where it was cooler.

If I were independently wealthy, I'd have an insulated coop with an AC unit in the window.

One of my crops is watermellon. I usually chill one and cut it up and give it to my birds they LOVE it.
