How can you tell gender on a baby chick?

That depends on the breed of chick. Some will be different in color or markings. Some can be wing sexed by feather length, most can't. And there is vent sexing, but there are lots of genital presentations that can make it very hard to tell. So the short answer is- you probably can't and most people won't be able to help you ID the chick until at least 6 weeks old with any certainty.
