how can you tell if a egg is fertile

How can you tell if a egg is fertile with out incubating it. I don't want to be a doctor tiller and incubate them and then abort the incubation. I want to know if there is a way of cracking the egg open and seeing any evidence of fertility in the yolk. Any help would be great. as i want to give them to the boy next door because he wants to hatch chicks. It would be devestating for him to incubate for 21 days then end up with nothing.

A: Crack it open and look for a bullseye... OR

B: Put it in the incubator for 4-7 days and see if it goes...

I generally do B, since A means the loss of an egg, and if I'm looking for fertility it's generally eggs I WANT to hatch so sacrificing one to find out isn't generally an option.
