We are giving a 10 week old EE rooster away to a girl we met at our local Co-Op. We advertised "Free EE Rooster 7 weeks old"
(Hes now 10) and she sounds nice on the phone,

but how do i know for sure im not giving him to a bad situation?? Help

Just ask to see their set-up, what kind of food they feed, how predator-proof their coop is, and if they free-range or are going to keep him in a cage or pen.

Insist on a home visit?Actually go look around where he'll be living, if it's already in poor conditions you'll know...Take a look at her other birds, make sure they look happy and healthy. Make sure she has the space and already know how to care for chickens, I'm assuming she does since she's wanting a rooster..But at least you'll be a little more at ease.

Personally, I sell an animal and I'm done. If it's a rooster and they want to eat it, fine by me. It's their animal. If it stays here it's just going to get eaten anyway

Now, if I'm getting a strong cock-fighting vibe from the person, I'll simply decline the sale. That's another thing entirely.

X2 Once it leaves your place, it's not your bird anymore.

I gave 3 roos to a friend thinking they were going to be fine, I found out the other day she only has one left. She let them free range all day and night. I had no idea she didn't have a coop for them to get away from night time predators. I will not give her another animal again. Yes it was just a rooster, but I would not have given them to her if I had known she wasn't going to take care of it properly.

I agree with the "not mine anymore" way but i also want to make sure its not a "not mine anymore hopefully its not a cock fighter" way. I am going to see her ranch that she invited me too just to make sure nothin fishy is going on.
