How cheap could I build a chicken coop and run for 6 chickens?

You’re right cheap isn’t always secure and I make sure that my chickens are safe but I found some cost effective ways to make that happen. But I like just throwing out ideas that way as other people do they can look through and see what will work for them and won’t work and what they are most comfortable with. You’re very correct Cost should not make it so your chickens are not protected

I am not technologically savvy enough to figure out how to send a link to a website but took a picture of the bottom of the page that has the website. Lots of different coops on that website too. I was going to use something other than shingles on the roof because there are many more roofing options that are just as good but much easier But I bet there’s tons of great ideas from the awesome BYC community too!

I really like that coop and its the perfect size for the number of birds I want. You've helped a lot, do you think that you could give me an estimate of how much that would cost. Also maybe a run that would be compatible with it.

Search for barn tractor (mobile home) on this site that will show yow a coop and run combined
I love the idea of chicken tractors to supplement if somebody can’t free range but I’ve never understood how to make them secure enough for night time predators. But I guess different locations have different threats So I guess it would depend on where you live

I guess it really depends on how much new lumber costs in your area. I would estimate around $100 give or take if you use a different roofing other than shingles. There’s lots of options out there and things like sheet metal and such last for a long time and around here I can get two new pieces 4 x 8 for less than $25 together. And I think it’s a lot easier to install than shingles personally. As far as A run what kind of situation are you in? Are your chickens going to be able to free range during the day or will they have to stay in a run. That may help determine how you want your run And did you want to run tall enough to walk in to clean everything which to me is the best way to go

They would be just as safe in a chicken tractor coop as they would be in a stationary coop

I just always wondered how you would protect against diggers getting into the run with a mobile coop. But I guess those Waye and I’ve just never really looked into them. I’m sure there’s somebody on BYC That has

Well, my chickens would be in the run most of the time and would only free range about once a week. I would like a run that I can stand up in.
