We are about to finish the coop. My question is, we want to put it at the end of the platform we have to catch the bird seed from the wild birds we feed, is this too close?

I would recommend moving the wild bird feeder to another side of your house.

I would move it well out of the way, otherwise the wild birds will be attracted to your chicken feed and can bring in diseases.

My chickens have a bad case of mites which I think they got from the wild birds. My chickens ate the fallen seed which I thought was great but they mingle with the wild ones. Lesson learned!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Wild birds carry leg scale mites, mycoplasma's, all kinds of bacteria and viral infections etc...so you will want to move all wild bird feeders far away from your chicken flock. And don't let them free range underneath any of these wild bird feeders either. Lots of issues down there!

My flock caught MS from wild birds and it was one of the most devastating disease I have ever had to deal with as I too love to feed the wild birds. So do your best to keep the two away from each other!

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!
