'in the mild temps in SC....it was like 29* this morning and my crew was rearing to go this before 7 a.m.

Didn't get anywhere near as cold as it was supposed to here (predicted at 9; read out at 17 at 6:00 am).

It didn't make any difference, though. Due to the storm, and me not having daylight to relocate them during the work week, my chickens are still in my garage XD I doubt it got below 30 in there last night. And I'd tarped the cages, expecting it to be in the single digits, so the chickens were probably enjoying a balmy 40-something.

It certainly was warm enough to make the place stink, anyway :p

It was in the teens last night..the girls did great. Even decided to venture out in the little bit of snow and bitter cold winds this morning. Yesterday they had to be tempted with the children's leftovers from lunch (anything for mac n cheese!) Sunday morning was another story. Somehow one of the birds pulled out the cord from the heated waterer. Apparently my Sussex tried pecking at the frozen water over night and her comb stuck to the fount. I found little flecks of blood all over the waterer! She had a habit of shaking her head and sending droplets all over. She cleaned up fineand doesn't seem the worse for it, and didn't slow down any, but I felt so bad for her:hit

It is 28 this morning. The flock is out and enjoying the day, even momma and the babies.

A few days ago I kept them in. It was 2 and the wind was fierce. They got pretty rambunctious.

I do not let them out in the wind below 20 degrees. They tend to get down and I do not need

sick birds.

The coldest I have let them out is 15 degrees with no wind or Sun. They seem to do just fine.

woke up it was -1 with a wind chill of -13. Right now it is 5 above with a wind chill of -4. Chooks are all okay except for frozen water. Tonight it is suppose to be -5 so it will feel colder with the wind chill. I will let ya know later.

It was cold here last night to. We got the last bit of winterizing done last night in the bitter cold. It was 10 this morning around 6am with a windchill of -5. The girls came out when I let them out, but then went right back in. They all seem to be fine though, just hanging out in the coop. I sure hope we get some warmer weather so they can come out and play.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! And I was worried that my Silkies would get too cold if it got below 50 degrees in the coop! I'm in N. Florida and it was 36 last night. Cooler nights are coming and I am mounting a heat lamp bulb up high in the 4 x 8 x 5 ht. coop (where they can't possibly get to it). Does anyone know how to attach a thermostat so it will turn off if it gets too warm in there?

Pampered????????

Naaaaaahhhh....just right!

16F overnight (a bit warmer than last night) and my 5 girls did just fine in their uninsulated coop, with no artificial heat or light. We're just heating with chicken BTUs, as someone else on BYC put it, LOL. It was very cold in the coop, but dry, so they were doing great this morning when I brought them their water & let them out...just hungry for a warm treat.
