How cold is too cold for my geese?

It is isn't it, all frozen and easy to scoop up I just went to look at mine and my young gander had frozen feathers on his neck from sticking his head in the water bucket crazy goof.

Speaking of water bucket, I had to zip tie the handle of the bucket to the pen because they were actually trying to get into their bucket to swim!!!! It's a good size bucket, but seriously? They miss their pool!

That's funny I have to put a board across half of their bucket with a heavy rock to keep my gander from getting in, once I found him standing in it.
Bless doesn't look like mine will have any swim time for a while unless I bring 4 of them in for tub time can't see that happening.

Hey what about Moose any more eggs? Id Lucy still laying/

Moose never laid an egg, I just thought it was his. Lucy is still laying every other day. One thing that is bothering me is that sometimes there is a drop of blood inside the egg and one other time there was a ton of blood, it grossed me out and I threw it away. I will still eat them if it's just a drop, that doesn't bother me, but the one egg I threw away made me lose my appetite!

Maybe this explains it, so far haven't seen that in any of my eggs but have read of others seeing it.

1. Blood spots

Can range in severity from a small spot of blood on the yolk to about a spoonful of blood mixed with the egg contents. Egg yolks form and mature in the hen's ovary and sometimes when the mature yolk is released it may rupture a small blood vessel, the blood released will end up being encased in the shell, along with the rest of the egg contents. Causes of this can be:

- Incorrect levels of vitamins A and K in the hen's diet;

- Administration of the drug sulphaquinoxaline;

- Large amounts of lucerne meal in the layers' diet;

- Feeding stale, wet or mouldy feed;

- Continuous lighting in the coop;

- Frights, stress and disturbances.

I don't see that this would pertain to your geese though.

No, I don't see any of these things being an issue. I do feed them a lot of lettuces that are high in vitamin A, I wonder if I should cut back on the lettuce?

Doesn't it contain vit K too which with people who take blood thinner should limit their lettuce eating. Try cutting back on the lettuce for a while and see if it makes any difference. Do they like chopped kale of course it maybe full of k too. I usually give mine greens 2X a week during winter and they don't get alot because there are 32 going after it.

Oh I do but they prefer staying outside but my 3 dogs sleep right next to the huge shed so predators won't worry me and the geese (I only left the dogs sleep outside coz of the last fox attack. The Africans do sleep inside though as they hate coldness.
