how common is it for a hen who has only been laying for about 3 week to lay a double yolk egg? i ask this because mine has layed 2 so far out of the10 eggs she has layed. she is an ee and is 26 weeks old. thanks

Believe it or not it is much more common in young pullets than in full grown hens. I haven't had a double yolker in a while and I used to get quite a few when my gals were first starting out. So I looked it up. It seems to take them awhile to get real regular eggs consistently.

Both my sl wyandottes and ee's had double yolkers and huge eggs when they first started out. Now that they're mature, they rarely lay either.

I got 2 in the last week from my 5 1/2 month old splash marans pullet. It seems to be pretty common to me.
