I have 3 standard and 3 banty hens in a fenced and net covered yard. Today I saw a very large black cat in another garden in my yard. How worried should I be?Or what can I do?

At our house the question would be 'How dangerous are the chickens to the cats?'

Our free range flock has actually attacked one of our smaller cats before but as Tipsy pointed out...chicks are a whole different matter.

What Tipsydog said. Rarely someone will post that a cat was after a full grown chicken. Usually the Adult chickens will put a cat in it's place. I have to protect my cats from the chickens.

We have eight cats around and in the house. There is one grey cat who just keeps trying and trying to nail a hen. They can fly faster than he can run and will fly up on a fence or tree if he bothers them but he just keeps on believing he can get one. After a while, I was fed up with him trying and got the cat one evening and threw him in the hen house for the night. In the morning there was a supersonic grey streak that blew out of the henhouse when I opened it up and some indignant hens vocalizing how peeved they were that I would insult them like that.
However.......
The cat has not gone near any of the hens since that day......I can't help believe that they pecked him into a corner all night, he was covered in poop....which must have tasted quite good when he groomed himself....

LOL LOL!

Good to know cats aren't a big threat to the adult chickens and haaaah now we all know what to do IF a feline keeps bothering the flock

We have a cat that does the same thing, except she takes on the rooster. She still hasn't learned, so maybe she'll have to stay in the hen hotel for the night.....good idea!!!
