how did i get a white turkey??

writing back on the white turkey, he has dark brown eyes, we have been breeding for a year, and this is actually the second white turkey hatched, the first one died,
so am not sure just what i have.

Yeah sounds like your line of bronzes have a white bird in their back ground some where.

Are these the only turkeys you have ??

darn, I was hoping it would be an albino - would have love to see pics

Then the tom and one hen must be carring the white gene.

Not necessarily. It could be that only one of the parents has this recessive gene, and it pops up every once in a while.

There are some lines of bronzes floating out there that do carry the white gene, as people were crossing them to either get size back in their flock or just was a mix breed.

If I remember right the white mamoths have bronze blood in them way back and so some one might have been playing around with something, from were ever you got your birds from or ?? It would be hard to tell any more.

If a recessive gene is carried it will not show unless both parents have it carried. Thats why its call recessive, birds split white may have some white flights or not.

Now if the white is not recessive gene, then only one parent need to be white. Dominant genes can hide a recessive gene for years, until pair with another recessive gene.
