How did you get into showing?

We got into showing 'way back 11 years ago when my kids first joined 4-H. It was great fun. Over the years we've shown many breeds, including: Marans, Orpingtons, Dutch Bantams, Silkies, Ameraucanas, Leghorns, Polish, Dominiques, among others I can't remember. But now all we breed and show are Buckeyes, in large fowl and bantam. Our show budget this year is reduced, due to the economy and having one kid in college and another one on the way, but we still love to show, if only just to see all our friends. Winning is always secondary for us.

I got 4 hens when I was four. 2 Black Minorcas and 2 Production Reds (were RIRs when I didn't know any better).

I showed the Minorcas in a show and won Grand Champion of the show with her in the county fair. I was so proud of myself.

A year or two later, I heard of a poultry show and wanted to try my luck but the deadline had already happened. So, my dad took me down to the old Casino grounds where the show was being held. We walked into the building and our jaws dropped to the floor. The birds were HUGE.

Forrest Beauford came up and described everything to us...we were amazed at what we saw. It took me a few years but I eventually got some show quality Minorcas (which DID look alot like the first Minorca I ever had). It escalated from there.
