How did you start out?

people have asked me what got me wanting chickens and really i cant remember. I think it was a self suffiency book I got from the library. Then my mom got cancer and went mostly natural and organic food, my son is a picky eater due to meds but loves eggs, my cousin has had for several years and my gram gets from him and Im so happy to be back in the country for almost 2 years now, I will always have the farm in my heart, plus my boyfriend was going to be gone for a year and I decided I needed a project to focus on. I have given some eggs to my aunt and a neighbor and I have a cousin who will take some too, she has grape vines and I hope to make a trade with her next year. I only have 5 hens and I really dont look forward to doing the chickies in the house thing again so Im hoping one of my EE's will do it for me. I also had the guy who took my 2 spare roos offer to have his chickens hatch some eggs for me, thats an option, I can take them when they are a couple weeks old.

My DH came home with a box of chicks and a 5lb bag of chick starter. He had been talking about getting some chickens. Well. I had I had to make do. Now I have a brooder for the babies and two coops. One for the big girls and a nursery coop for the little girls. I sell my eggs to our local feed store, and a produce market down the road. Also, I give some of the eggs to some of our friends. I love my girls. I am addicted. My DH likes to give them treats sometimes, but I take care of them.
