How did your flock annoy you today?

My chickens, with tomatoes and apples, will not eat them diced or sliced. Instead I have to take a bite out of it and they go crazy wanting it. I often pull the apple away before they go too far in, but by the time I come back with cut-up smaller pieces they are disinterested! Instead, my fingers look like a delicious snack and they are biting me like I am an apple. What's funny is they'll try to eat a rock from my hand for two minutes but not cut up fruit!
Same, same! I think they love the element of destruction, so chopped up produce doesn't satisfy the same way.

My husband brought the chickens some fresh alfalfa sprouts, which I tediously grew with love. After scattering them about the pen, the chickens looked up at him like, "That's it? What do you want me to do?", and resumed foraging for oddly shaped pieces of mulch.

Sometimes I wonder if they really want a snack or if they just want our souls.

Haha poor Poppy!! So cute!
It's tough being a muppet!

Mine have absolutely no interest in vegetables, including herbs. It's fruits (including tomatoes a bit) all the way. I think they get enough from the various weeds backyard vegetation that they just don't feel a need for greens.

I made a pot roast yesterday and was crushed (but not surprised) that they had no interest in the carrot peels, of which there were many. 😭

You know, I see these social media posts where people just toss in all their kitchen scraps. My pen would turn into a literal fly-infested garbage heap if I did that. I'm kind of shocked yours turned down the carrot peels. Seems like it would be fun to play with and shake around!

That was my hope! That one time that I tossed them some extra bucatini (like hollow fat spaghetti), the chases were legendary! Giant white worms, oh boy!!

Hahaha mulch! Yum! 😆

First thing this morning, I put all 3 of my babies in with my "toddlers". The babies are now nearly 2 weeks old and the toddlers are nearly 4 weeks old. I've been trying to integrate them by letting them have supervised time together each day, increasing the amount of time every day. I think everyone is seeing eye to eye now.

I had a "light bulb" moment, and I moved treat time to when I put the 2 groups together. Bingo! I guess veggies and mealworms can settle most chicken differences.

Good idea! Positive reinforcement.
It seemed to work well. I put some in their usual dish, and I scattered some in the shavings for them to scratch and dig for. I have 2 waterers and 2 feeders in there, grit, some perches (sticks from the yard), a store bought chick roost bar, and an upturned flower pot. Things are in varying heights. I'm hoping there is enough to explore to keep boredom from setting in.
