How did your flock annoy you today?

That's awful, but I can absolutely see that happening. Chicks are just so fragile. A part of me wonders if that isn't what happened with the one I lost. Not that she was stepped on, but the woman who got them out of the bin when I bought them seemed very rough with them. Like, it actually made me wince a couple of times.

I hope everyone else continues to do well, and I'm so sorry you lost one!

Thanks. Everyone else seems good. Nature is harsh. It isn't heartbreaking for me because I get that things happen and I also eat anyone who doesn't cut it in my flock. Had one of my aggressive cockerals for dinner last night. He was delicious. I kind of hope I get a bunch of cockerals from all these hatches just for the food because I don't keep many boys and they have to be gentlemen for me to consider keeping them.

I get that. Losing the chick I lost wasn't fun, but I did better with it than I thought I would. And I think it's partly because I knew from the beginning something wasn't right with her, but also because I went into this whole chicken thing with the knowledge that things just happen. Also, we do plan to eventually cull extra males (not bantams) for meat, and maybe even keep meat birds.

My tiny flock’s in a phase where they stick together like atoms. I have a section of my pole tree with single perches, meant for one bird to roost alone in peace. Clover loves to use it. The others obviously can’t fit next to her.

So what do they do? Sit directly UNDER her, waiting to get crapped on. I’ve found a skidmark on Hornet’s back, so I know it happens. It’s on the white portion of her feathers and won’t come out unless I give her a full blown bath.

I’ll just convinced myself it’s chocolate and move on.

Mine do this exact thing! They've been bothering me sitting in the poop shelf for the past couple days while only one of them roosts! I haven't seen one get on their backs yet, but I'd better eat my words before it does happen.

My girls are getting their glue back slowly but surely... But I had to trek thru the woods to the neighbor's house to grab Sybil because she was over there, by herself, just standing there and screaming. Weirdest noise I've ever heard from a chicken. I thought there was a turkey in the woods

Poor baby. Rilla likes to do that as well. If her flock is more than a few feet from her and she doesn't immediately see them, the entire nearby area will know about that.
