How did your flock annoy you today?

So it wasn’t today but maybe yesterday or the day before BUT my favorite chicken and head hen pecked the ever loving hell out of me! She was demanding treats. Apparently I’d been in the yard too long without giving them treats. My husband warned me that she bossed every one around but I was all like, “She’s so sweet. Australorps aren’t known for being bossy like that.” Now here I am with the unwelcome knowledge of what a full grown hen’s peck feels like. I am aggrieved. 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, I think I missed The Tail Incident! 😯
So I was rushing to go to a doctor’s appointment. Everything was going smoothly until Buffy decided to wander and not go in the run easily. So then I had to catch her. Combine a fast hen and my slow hands and we get me almost catching her around the middle but ending up grabbing her tail. 😩 I think she was most angry about me not letting go. I moved my hands up and not overly gently put her in the run. I think I missed the appointment anyway. Sigh. That was in June or July. She just started eating treats out of my hands again within the last 2-3 weeks. As I said Buffy was pissed. Nonetheless she’s happy healthy and quite spoiled.

I think I figured out why she’s so slow to go in the run. I think she’s at the bottom of the order. I notice she’s one of the only ones that bothers the younger pullets.

I got pecked on the back of the neck by my girl, Anne this morning. I guess she thought I wasn't moving fast enough with the treats, despite the bag being in hand. She flew onto my shoulder and pecked the back of my neck, and since my hair was up in this messy-just-got-moving knot (still that way lol), she got all flesh. She's a little 13 ounce bantam, but I still knew it happened!

Why do we do this? Why is there a dinosaur in my backyard demanding things of me? 🤣

That's probably a fair assumption! It's tough being near the bottom.

There's an article on the front page titled "Can chickens eat organ meat?", and all I can think when I see it is "Yes, they would eat my organs in a heartbeat." Anne has proven that today.

Not the organ meat🤣🤣🤣 That’s so disturbing but very likely. If they’ll eat each other why would t they eat me? I’m very sure their TRex ancestors would have pulled a chair up to the table, slapped on a bib and go to town on every part of me.

Here's one of my tiny raptors and his lady friend now, eyeing me suspiciously as I sit in the coop to make sure no one gets too warm.

Y’all I found myself photographing Nubia’s vent and feeling pelvic bones because I’m somewhat convinced she’s secretly laying eggs and I just can’t find them. What have I become? 😩
