How did your flock annoy you today?

The vent’s pretty accurate. It will be wide and moist if laying. None layers will have more of a puckered, dry vent. Like a kitty butthole.
So it’s moist but I don’t know if it looked wider because of me holding her feathers out of the way. IMG_2122.jpeg IMG_2123.jpeg

So Yeti (my silkie) hatched her babies finally. 2 on Saturday, 3 yesterday and the last 1 today. So exciting right? No! Yeti is calling on DNA that should not exist in such a tiny bird and viciously defending her babies. I moved her from the tiny nesting area into the grow out pen and she fought like a cat about to hit water. Than I started moving babies which of course made her even more upset. Well after a bit I go check on her to make sure all is well and she has completely buried the water and food dishes mind you her and the babies are in the far back corner nowhere near the door so I reach in the 6 inches to them and she goes ballistic. She jumped for my face and hands and I am convinced the only reason she missed is her stupid hairdo. Later she kicked the dishes around and I had to fish them out with a rake because safety. Honestly depending on how well she raises these babies defines on if I ever let her brood again. I can handle a bit of growling and pecking but going full on screaming and attacking like a rooster when I am not even near the babies is just a big nope for me. If she is a good Mom I will consider it but if she sucks then never again! My other Mommas can be jerks but not to this level.

Also with all the chicks being born the husband just had to remind me today that some culling needs to happen to our older girls. Probably taking out 4-6 of our older ones and he STILL won't let me cull Chunky Thunder who has a firm lump on her neck that looks like cancer. Her head is so tilted but Noooo unless she starts to go down hill I will be tending this chicken forever because he has to feel sorry for it and just urgh. He is happy we have such a big flock though and is encouraging me to keep it up because we do eat everyone that is healthy. Face is due to hatch her brood this weekend so 7 more if they all hatch. 6 from Shirley, 3 from Laverne, 6 from Yeti, and then the 7 eggs under Face. Hopefully no more broodies this year.
