How do Broody hens get the humidty up for their hatch?

Hens go into "lockdown" just like we simulate with an incubator. In the first 18 days they will get off the nest once or twice a day to eat, drink and poop, but in the last few days they won't even do that. By sitting on the eggs without a break, they increase the humidity as the eggs are no longer exposed to the drying effects of the air, but are constantly surrounded by the hen's warmth & moisture.
