DE may have worked for you but it didn't for me. At first I thought my birds were molting but after awhile they weren't getting their feathers back in. Then I discovered the mites and the birds were loaded. I tried DE and after 2/3 weeks they still weren't improving and still had mites. That is when I did some research and found permethrin. I used it weekly for about a month and the birds started getting their feather back and I didn't find any more mites. I think if I hadn't treated the birds when I did, I may have lost some. Good luck...Diatomaceous earth will get rid if mites and has many health benefits, you should try that
Permectrin 2 is permethrin 10%.this sounds wonderful do you have a link to what you use because permethrin is kind of broad. I have some permectrin 2 I got from a hardware store but idk if its effective against feather mites. is what you use good for feather/ depluming mites
Poultry dust has permethrin in it.Mite dust*
Food grade DE is digestible per animal weight, I use it every week with my birds in their coop, not only in the cracks and crevices of the coop, but in the bedding as well, usually a couple tablespoons at best. I have a dozen birds in the coop and they like to bath themselves in the pine shavings with no ill effects. Have no issues with mites, ticks, or fleas or any flies in the coop. My birds free range during the day and are very happy though they can be a pain and want to follow me outside when I'm working.![]()
For many years I never had an issue. A couple of years ago I have my first bout with mites. I had my first flock around 50 years ago. I tried DE for awhile and the birds weren't improving. Originally I found them in one coop and then a few days later discovered them on some birds in another coop. I used to swear by DE but after that I don't anymore. If I hadn't treated the birds with something else I may have lost a few. They were starting to look pathetic and nothing I tried was working. After some research I found permethrin and gave it a try as my birds weren't improving. After treating weekly for about a month they were improving and getting their feathers back in. Since, some of my birds have had mites which I think wild birds introduce. I have treated them right away and all has been good. Also if you use one product long enough the mites can become resistant to it. I only treat when needed. Good luck and have fun...you use permectrin 2 and it works on feather mites?
do you still have the link for what worked for you this sounds really promising lol and could you tell me specifically how you used it like if you diluted it or sprayed it directly on the bird. Same with my my bird went through a molt and feather just werent coming backDE may have worked for you but it didn't for me.
