how do I clean it?

if my quail are in this how will I clean the poo.
and they are not those nice and tame quail some have, these ones will take off like a jet any chance they get.
should I get a smaller cage to put them in while i do it?

Yes a smaller cage would be good to keep them under control while you clean the pen. Maybe distract them with some spinach inside the smaller cage to keep them from freaking out if you say that they are not tame. Hope this helps

You could always make a few "access" holes in the side, just big enough to put a small plastic rake thru, but not big enough that the birds can fly out. Make access on both sides. high or low, and you could rake it toward the door and then remove safely. If you start messing around catching birds to do your maintenance, you just might lose them eventually.

Have you thought about clipping the wings. I clip all of my quail. My cage that is outside has a top that opens up. I just walk over to it and raise the top. They try to fly out and then they do get out sometime but if you clip one wing, at least when they do get out they can only fly about 3 feet in the air. All you have to do is walk towards thema nd when they start to fly straight up just stick your hand out and catch them.

I have 90 babies in the brooder right now and everytime I open the top they try to fly out. they are almost 2 weeks old so I am thinking of clipping there wings as well.
