I'm not a chicken expert just yet but I do nuisance trapping and on some of my live animal traps that need some TLC I take 2 pieces of HC and line them up with 3 squares overlapping...then take rebar wire and weave it through each hole on all 3 overlaps...kinda like "sewing" it together. Take pliers and twist the 2 tag ends together when the weaving is finished I have caught a bunch of critters with this and never had one escape through the 2 sections that are joined.
