How do I cut off my roosters spurs?

Yep... that's what I do.

I tried it with my hands, but couldn't quite get enough torque on it. Pliers help.

(makes my husband squeamish when I do it, too... he said I'd be good at torture!

And he's a Marine!!)

I trim them and the toenails and file them smooth. I have only popped of the spurs of butchered roos. It looks like it'd hurt like ripping a toenail off.

(1) I use a hacksaw blade , get someone to hold the roo pull out his leg and saw off spur leave about 1/2 on the spur it will bleed little or none, and it takes about a year to grow back sharp, if it bleeds sprinkle some flour on it to stop,

(2)
The quickest way but it will bleed more, is to take a pair of toe nail clippers for dogs, they cost about $2.00, can buy them at wal-mart . you can do it by yourself but will get blood on you, if you dont want blood on you, get someone to hold roo pull hes leg out put the spur through the hole in the nail clipper and squeeze and it pops it right off 2 seconds a spur, I still leave about 1/2 inch so it wont bleed as much

Hot potato, slip spur into potato careful not to put heat on leg, wait a short time and the spur should fall off when you pull the potato off. Says it doesn't cause any pain and they will grow back of coarse.

Never tried it.

This is how I do it now. WAY easier than pliers or cutting the spur and stopping the bleeding. Takes just a few seconds each spur and done. I am not as talented as the master Mr Marlinchaser!

I have my daughter hold the roo.
