How do I do this??

This part caught my eye. I thought they were supposed to be turned like chicken eggs....side to side. Not upside down. Did I do it wrong?

They are to be rolled side to side--- never top to bottom.

Also for your temp swings you might try adding a heat sinc or 2--- just take an old jar and fill with water and cap off tightly--- once they heat up they will give off heat more slowly and controlled than a heat source--- there by they even out those wild swings

This will help with swings from sudden air temp changes but moveing the thermostat closer to the heat source gives you much more controal for an excat temp adjustment

The thing is... I have 4 canning jars with water and lids in each corner, and I had already moved the thermostat closer based on the research I've been doing... this was before my last post... I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I see lots of posts about people getting their home made incubators within a degree or two, but i seem to keep getting the bigger swings. I've added holes, plugged them, opened them... messed with the temp... Still having trouble. maybe I'm not being patient enough? I let it rest at least an hour after I make changes before I see where it's at. Thanks for the advice, I really do apprecieate it!

As for humidity, I shoot for 60's before lockdown, 70's after lockdown. 62 instead of 68% doesn't seem to matter much, just don't let it get to 20%, ya know?

A few questions. Do you have a fan in it to circulate air? Are you using a light bulb & what watt is it? Do you have a heat deflector?

Here is how mine is set up: I have two 90 watt bulbs, thermostat about 1" from touching one of the bulbs, several small jars of water, & small ventilation holes on each side. Keep your water away from your heat source & no metal except for the thermostat around the heat source. I can adjust mine to the tenth of a degree.

Sorry for the delay in response, I was watching the incubator over the weekend, and it appears I'm getting close...

I didn't touch it for a while and saw that I was going from 98.5-99.7, low but still my swing has narrowed!!

Here is my set up (sorry should have explained a while ago

) I have a frozen meat styrofoam transport container, the interior dimensions are 12x18, with 1.5 inch thick walls. I have 4 pen sized holes 1 inch from the bottom for ventilation. I also have 3 wine cork sized holes that I can plug or leave open, two in the lid, and one across from the fan. the fan is located on one of the 18 inch sides, and is 1/2 inch away from the wall. I have a 40 watt bulb 4 inches above the floor in the center of one of the 12 inch sides, and the thermostat is located in the corner of the 18 inch side nearest the bulb, and inch away from the wall. I have a water dish on the opposite 12 inch side of the bulb, with a hole and tube to add water. 4 jelly jars with lids in ech corner, hardware cloth 5 inches high, I also put the egg cartons I'll be using to hold the eggs inside... I just tried to adjust the temp again and will wait for the morning to see what kind of stability I have... Am I missing anything important? Or do I just need to be more patient and keep adjusting?

Working on pictures, I know it would be so much easier than my explaination... Just don't know how!!!

Again, I really appreciate all the advice I've been given, sorry I haven't been too responsive lately!!
