I had 3 peacock eggs in my incubator and only one of them hatched. Now I have a two day old baby and I am wondering who has a great idea on how to feed him? I have been reading on here and I found out that you have to teach them to eat and I'm not sure how to start.
I have him/her in a cage on a towel and game bird feed spread on the bottom, but is there anything else I need to make available? Don't want to make him sick!
Thanks for any help...I've raised lots of chickens, but never a peacock!

The easiest way I have found is with hard boiled yolk. Scrape a little on the end of your fingernail and their curiosity will bring them to come and peck at it. From there they will willingly come and eat from your hand. Start off with soft food like scrambled or hard boiled eggs. Then I will mix 1/2 part scrambled egg with one part starter crumbles in a blender, they go ape **** crazy for that and will love to see you coming with their treats.

Awesome! I've been feeding "him" boiled egg yolk and he is eating it! He was just hatched yesterday so hopefully he will soon get the hang of it. I took him outside and sat him down in the grass and he picked a lot at the grass.
Thanks for the info! and Happy Fourth!

A chick can survive for a few days on the egg they absorb at hatch and are not really hungry for a day or two. They also do not have any grit in them to digest grass and bugs, I would stay with the egg and crumbles and not let him touch dirt for twelve weeks so he does not pick up any cocci or worm eggs from the soil.

Great idea! He's gonna be an inside baby for who knows how long! He's already spoiled rotten, and he's now loving that egg yolk....and I put some in water and he likes that too!
Thanks for telling me that about the dirt! That's great to know!

That food on the fingernail really works! Thanks so much!
Here are some photos of "him"
Any ideas of a name that I can call him? :)
