I would like a quick rundown on how to ferment. I have 11 chickens now (more to come lol ) they range from 1 to 3yrs. I know it involves soaking feed in water. How long? how much to feed? can they have only fermented? Sorry, lots of questions.

I add water and a glug of ac vinegar to my regular crumbles. It begins to ferment overnight. I give them all they want.
I don't make too much at a time, I think it can get too sharp, especially in warm weather.
When it starts to run out, I add more using the leftover as starter.
Use raw unfiltered Apple cider vinegar, often abbreviated as ACV.
No it doesn't have to be fermented, I often just give the wet mash when I first start a new batch.

Could you do this with pellets also?

I love this tutorial for FF. This is what I do with a minor modification. I use quart size Mason jars. I cut a piece of plastic canvas to go in the ring. That way I can cover it and keep most nasties out but still let air in.

I only let mine ferment overnight using 1:1 ratio of food to water. I leave a bit of food down in the bottom of the jar each time I feed so that the bacteria build up.
