How do I figure out the pecking order?

Ok, normally when introducing new members, the new ones need to be quarantined..... Chicks normally get along better with other chicks around same age than with say hens and chicks.... But they are old enough to start forming pecking order... Most people seperate part of the run for about a week so the existing chicks can see and hear the new chicks but can't actually have physical contact with them..... Hiding spaces are essential... I have been told to stay out of squabbles unless one is bleeding,.... I kept my newbies in a dog crate in the coop at night for a few night, they eventually followed big pullets up and roosted fine..... Newbies still get pecked if they step out of line.... But for the most part everyone gets along.... Roosting time comes with squabbles, so if you don't have enough room your prob going to create stress in flock.... If everyone seems to be getting along except for 1 or 2, you can sometimes seperate bully for a day or 2 then add her back in...

Thank you so much for the advice. I will put a divider in my run today. I did put the new in a dog crate over night but kept them on the back porch due to rain.

Your welcome, I did my divider so the smaller ones could get out but the bigger ones couldn't get in....it usually takes about 2 weeks.... Good Luck :)

Finally got my divider up today, thank goodness. We had some left over lattice from the deck work. I let the new girls out of the doggie crates & just sat out there to watch their behavior. Within the new girls I find that 95% of the aggression is from the americaunas & 5% from the buffs. I put the 2 americaunas in a doggie crate & just let them sit with the run with the new ones. I kept checking in from my window to make sure they were fine. I did see the smaller reds (which can squeeze through the lattice squares) on the side with the new girls. Because they were getting along I went out there & let the new girls (excluding the americaunas) in with they reds. It went very well. The older reds would pull a feather or 2 from the news one, but it was 100% better than their first encounter. I let the americaunas have the other run to themselves. I did let the younger americauna come over & visit with the other girls but... she was getting aggressive, so I just put her back with the other americauna. There has been lots of wing flapping & pacing between the divider with the older red & older americauna. I'm sure they will get it worked out. Thanks for you help and advice again.
