It depends on how many genes are involved. If there are more than a couple of genes involved the statistics are much lower than 25%.

A spontaneous or planned cross produces something good and someone went to the effort to replant it year after year until it was inbred enough to produce the same thing every time. Breeders (plant and animal) do this all the time. That's why there are plant breeders. They do this for a living.

With the inbreeding depression removed or reduced by a generation of hybridization, it is possible thst you'll get something better that either of the (usually heirloom) parents or the hybrid.

Yes! I have stabilized about four different varients from the f1 hybrid and they have been stabilized into op for over 20 years!

Keep seeds for whatever did survive to replant next year. 1st year adaptation.

+1 I got ONE cayenne pepper this year off of ten or so plants…but I got a dozen seeds off of it. Those are all getting planted next year!

We save almost all of our own seeds! At least you know for sure what you are getting! We have planted seeds we bought for cabbage and gotten broccoli!

Got two surviving hot peppers this year, two of which have produced. Next year 5 survivors, the following year weed?

I do as well. For the most part, the only commercial seeds that come into my house at this point are gifts.

This year, when I'm starting adaptation to a new area and new soil, some of my dry sand desert adapted seeds didn't do well with cold wet clay, so I had to start over and buy some things.
