I'll let everybody know when they hatch. The last chick I saw that she hatched earlier this summer (before she killed it) was just *beautiful* chocoalate and yellow/gold. I can't WAIT for chicks!!! Not holding my breath, but I have a good feeling. that compost bin probably was keeping them warm even when she was out and about eating the last couple times I saw her, LOL.
Oh yea, so happy you've found them. Hope all goes well!!
My dog isn't the type to run over the birds. Well that is until I really need her to... maybe. For now, when I can't seem to find a bird at dusk, I can always count on her to point out where they are. She tries to get them but knows it's a no no, so she points with her leg all the way to her nose. Including a nose to the bird. So cute!
If a hen kills her chicks the first time does that mean she'll kill them everytime? My cochin hen hatched chicks but I figured she didn't know what to do cause she smothered on and I took the other just in case.
If she goes broody again should I discourage her?
She hatched some Delaware eggs but she has the frizzle gene and I'd like to have her hatch friz eggs when she's old enough.
She's only 6mos. or so and I don't think eggs would be good to hatch from a hen this young. Am I right?
