I'm still looking for the really great website that lists the USDA certified sites....If I find it, I'll let you know

I paid $1.35/bird when I had my 14 Hens that turned out to be Roosters processed

I
on't know if you are looking at organics or not, but some of the farmers and links might steer you in the correct direction...

ArabiansR2Cool-
Where did you end up going to get your chickens processed? I have 3-5 weeks before mine are ready, but so far I am not getting anywhere with the butcher shops around here.

I suggest trying it yourself too. It is so much easier than you think. I am not sure as to the price - we do our own.

Make sure you are familiar with your processor because I wouldn't just let anyone kill and dress out my meat.

I LOVE your title - How do I find a hit man!!! LOL

my hubby is the axe man. i'm on guts. i couldnt do the choppin and he cant do the gut removal...

you just need to find the right partner.
:)

i've also heard that you can use a .22 while they are hanging - go for the head shot - which may be easier than wrasslin' 'em. we didnt have to do this but it was our contingency if we couldnt do the deed.

let us know what you find! and good luck! remember - being on 'guts' is the easy part!

yeeehaw!
ps dont psych yourself out. its not as bad as you think or imagine. practice gratitude, cowboy up.. and march on out there. we're all behind you!

Using a .22 to kill a chicken is never a good idea especially when one hangs a bird up... the .22 bullet travels ONE MILE and could easily KILL an unintended victim. The local sheriff will have something to say about it and a judge and jury just might invite the perpetrator to a neck tie party. (Note : A cotton rope over a branch of an old oak tree are environmentally sound and sustainable )

I was trying to find a processor too. I called my local coop. ext. and they did not know of any processors, but they did offer to come out and show me how to butcher. I have put my plans for meat birds on hold until I can find a processor here.
