My female has turned on Mothers Day so shes going on 3 years soon. So this will be her frist year breeding. She is attached to a paint gelding we have. So we have decided to find her a male. Found one we had to drive 3 hrs to get him. guy told me one the phone he was 3 years and said we can have him if we come up and get him. Drove up there and picked him up. then guy told us he is 15 years Old!!!! How long do they live?? anyway we got him home and run him through the barn to her pen. she pays no attation to him all her attation is still on the horse in the barn. So how do I get her to leave the gelding alone?? We have moved her to the back pasture but she just walks the gait all day or finds someway to get back to the barn so she can walk the side of the barn. The Male just walks the other side o the fence all day also. grrr

Well that is a hard one. Emu are picky about who they"love". You can put 2 together, but that doesn't mean they will like each other. My one male is still in love with the mini horses and mini cow...........

Don't they mate for life like a goose or a swan? If so, you may be fighting a losing battle at this point in time. I am no emu expert, but it seems like you may almost have to raise the male and female together to get them to mate.

Found out they don't like each other very well. When the female (EMU) got near the Male (Buddy) He Started kicking her so she ran back up to the front pasture again. O well They can just live out their lifes her. I went ahead and order two more Emu eggs to put in the bator hoping both hatch this time.
