my chicken watches the eggs and checks up on them but never sits on them it makes no sense to me.... how can i get her to become broody?

As long as they have available eggs to sit on, they will become broody at their own discretion. Besides letting some eggs pile up or offering plastic eggs, I'm not sure how to coax a hen to sitting. Nature will just have to kick in. Some breeds, like the ones I keep (cochins), are always going broody. Other breeds arent inclined to broodiness, like production leghorns. What kind of hen(s) do you have?

I do know that chickens will sometimes wait until there's 8 or more eggs... then they'll sit, but mine never sat so I brought the eggs in.

i have RIR hens and the rooster is a mix
This is the rooster not sure what type it is

You could leave 30 eggs in the nest for her and it doesn't mean she'll go broody. Her hormones have to kick in to become broody. Some breeds very rarely if ever become broody.

If they are from a hatchery it's probably been bred out of them..Not saying it can't happen, but the liklihood is not very good.

should i get another hen like a silkie cause my friends down the street said i could have a silkie so would it do better?

From what I heard, Silkies will sit on their eggs and do a great job hatching the chicks.
